Dear County Executive Poloncarz:
As you may already be aware, a significant number of dedicated dog lovers have expressed their desire for a dog park to serve the eastern suburbs of Erie County. The County’s beautifully well-kept Como Lake Park would be an ideal location for an additional dog park. We ask that you and outgoing Commissioner Schinzel consider our request.
As Lancaster has experienced significant growth over the past two decades, the population has increased and, along with it, the canine population. Lancaster Town Clerk Johanna Coleman provided a figure of 5,780 licensed dogs currently in the town of Lancaster. According to Cheektowaga Town Clerk Brian Wielinski, there are roughly 10,000 licensed dogs in their town. In addition there are probably many more that have not been legally licensed by their owners. Currently, residents of the Lancaster-Depew-Cheektowaga-Alden suburbs must drive on average a minimum of 25-30 minutes to reach the nearest dog park.
