We are Lancaster Unleashed, Inc, an organization working toward getting a dog park. Lancaster, New York currently has almost 6000 licensed dogs. They need a place to exercise and socialize. Please support a dog park in our town!
We have 3 possibilities for a dog park in our town:
- A town park in Lancaster - We have attended a town board meeting and spoken to town officials about available places.
- Como Lake Park in Lancaster, which is a county park - We spoke before the Erie County Energy & Environment Committee in November 2017, and while we don't have a firm commitment from them, we have plans to meet with them again in January 2018.
- We may look into sending a proposal to the Village of Lancaster as well.
Today, our officers spoke in front of a meeting for the Erie County Energy & Environment Committee, which oversees the parks. We gave them our formal proposal and a single page of bullet-points (which are attached here) and requested land in Como Lake Park for a dog park. Parks Commissioner Dan Rizzo told us that he's not opposed to the idea, but wants to wait to discuss it further after the county parks have released their master plan. This will be sometime in January 2018, so we will meet with him then. We will keep you all updated.
Here are the minutes from our November meeting.
This is our monthly meeting, held on the third Wednesday of each month. All are welcome to attend! We discuss fundraising ideas, getting the word out, and our efforts with getting a commitment from the county or town.
